So… was it wrong to express reservations about the Glen Coe Skyline Race? No, as someone who knows the ground, has run it all multiple times including one complete Glen Coe round, said his piece and then left it, I don’t think so. But, while I chose to actively avoid the hoopla and take myself elsewhere yesterday, it seems clear that a hugely successful inaugural running marked by fired-up competitors, fantastic individual efforts, stunning winning times and many, many enthusiastic spectators travelling especially for it means it’s here to stay. So to all involved (and especially my many friends taking part as competitors or safety team) well done, and here’s hoping no-one sees *my* (IMHO) reasonably-espressed, if now possibly needless, reservations as ‘the scare mongering of a select few’…

For the record, what I’ve said publicly can be found at http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=605766 (four comments in the name of ‘petestack’) and https://www.petestack.com/blog/last-year-of-running-races.html (yes, mentioned as ‘indirectly (?) contributing to my growing disillusionment with the racing game’). But don’t think I *started* any of the discussions anywhere except one Facebook post criticising a BBC ‘risk of injury or death’ report for a sensationalist headline with no analysis of the ‘risk’ areas!

Might just add (before I leave it unless needing to reply to any comments here) that, since it quickly become apparent that the race’s early start time left a low likelihood of descending climbers meeting ascending racers on Curved Ridge, comments relating to that particular concern are retrospectively somewhat redundant.
